Your health data belongs to you.

FarmakoMed is designed so that your medical records and core AI processing remain on your own device whenever possible.

Privacy by Design.

Each principle is something you can verify in the product today.

Local-first architecture

Core features are designed to run and store data on your device by default, not in the cloud.

Minimal data collection

FarmakoMed collects only what is needed to provide the features you use. There is no advertising.

No account required for core features

You can use medication tracking, reminders, documents, and the health profile without creating an account.

Offline-capable workflows

Core features, including AI-assisted medication recognition, are designed to work without an internet connection.

Clear cloud boundaries

Optional cloud backup and sync are architecturally separate from local processing and require your explicit choice.

Where your data lives.

Select any card for a detailed explanation.

Stored in the app's sandboxed local storage using the operating system's standard secure storage. For Personal Plan users, this data never leaves the device unless you export it yourself.
Document images and any text extracted from them (OCR) are stored locally. They are not uploaded to a server for processing.
FarmakoMed uses its own on-device AI model, running on your phone's own hardware. No document photo, prescription text, or question you ask the assistant is sent to an external AI service for these features.
Your timeline is assembled on-device from your own local records. It is not built or hosted on a server.
If you choose to enable Personal Plus or Family, your data is encrypted before transmission and stored to allow backup and sync between your own devices. This is optional, requires explicit action, and is architecturally separate from the local-first features above. It is not a web portal — see our Privacy Policy for details.

Privacy starts with architecture.

Rather than describe a policy, here is what actually happens on your phone when you scan a document.

Medical Document
A prescription, lab result, or discharge summary.
Phone
Captured with your camera. No upload required.
OCR
Text is extracted directly on your device.
Medical Understanding
Structured into medications, dates, and values.
Local AI
The on-device AI model reasons over the data, running entirely on your phone.
Answer
A plain-language summary, ready for you to review.

Everything above happens inside the phone. No step in this pipeline requires a network connection.

Security.

How FarmakoMed is designed to protect your health information.

Mobile-first design

FarmakoMed is designed as a mobile app. Your health data is processed and stored primarily on your device.

Local data storage

For Personal Plan users, all health data is stored locally on your device using the platform's secure storage.

Optional cloud backup and sync

If you enable cloud backup, your data is encrypted before being transmitted using TLS and encrypted at rest.

Authentication for cloud features

Cloud features require authentication using standard, secure authentication practices.

No public web patient portal

There is no web-based patient portal in the current release. Your health data cannot be accessed from a web browser.

Responsible handling of health information

We do not sell your data, do not use it for advertising, and do not share it with third parties without your consent.

Reporting a security concern

If you believe you have found a security vulnerability in FarmakoMed, please report it responsibly to support@farmakomed.eu.

Don't take our word for it.

Open source & licences

Third-party models and public data sources FarmakoMed's on-device AI depends on.

Offline verification

Turn off your internet connection and test core features yourself, using the protocol below.

Transparency reports

Periodic reporting on data requests and incidents.

Planned for a future release

Report a discrepancy

Every technical statement here is traceable to the product itself, the Privacy Policy, or the Engineering Journal. If you find one that isn't, tell us.

  1. Turn on Airplane Mode on your phone.
  2. Scan a medication package — recognition should complete without a connection.
  3. Ask the on-device health assistant a question about a saved medication.
  4. Check that a scheduled reminder still fires at its set time.

Exactly what FarmakoMed does.

Never hide limitations — transparency builds trust. Here is what happens today, plainly stated.

  • What stays on the device: your medication list, health profile, documents, health timeline, and all on-device AI reasoning.
  • What optional cloud services exist: Personal Plus and Family provide encrypted backup and sync. They are off by default and require your explicit opt-in.
  • What AI model is used: An on-device model for medication recognition, document understanding, and the health assistant — full details on our Licenses page. See why this model was chosen.
  • What happens when internet is unavailable: core features keep working. Only medication-database lookups and cloud backup/sync require a connection.
  • FarmakoMed is currently in beta — Android beta and iOS TestFlight — ahead of full public release.
  • Personal Plus and Family (encrypted backup and sync) are not yet generally available.
  • A full third-party open-source licence manifest is in preparation — see Open Source below.
  • Periodic transparency reporting on data requests and incidents is planned for a future release.

Open Source.

FarmakoMed depends on openly published models and public data sources. Here is what, and why.

This model runs entirely on-device through an open-source, Apache-2.0-licensed inference runtime. Full model and license attribution is listed on our Licenses page. Read "The Engine Isn't the Car" for how we treat model dependencies, and why using an external model doesn't compromise architectural independence.
RxNorm and openFDA/DailyMed (United States), CBG (Netherlands), and related EU sources.
We are preparing a full manifest of third-party licences and acknowledgements. In the meantime, see our Licenses & Acknowledgements page.

Frequently asked questions.

No. FarmakoMed does not use OpenAI, or any other third-party AI provider, to process your medical documents. Medication recognition, document understanding, and the on-device assistant run entirely on your phone, using our own locally-run AI model — no document photo or extracted text is ever sent to OpenAI or any external AI service for these features.
Yes. FarmakoMed works fully offline. All core features — medication tracking, reminders, documents, emergency contacts, and on-device AI recognition — are available without any internet connection. Some optional features, like cloud backup or medication database lookups, require connectivity.
No. The Personal Plan requires no account. An account is only needed if you choose to enable the optional Personal Plus or Family plan for encrypted backup and sync.
By default, all your data is stored locally on your device using the operating system's standard secure storage. It never leaves your phone unless you choose to enable cloud backup.
Yes. FarmakoMed's on-device AI model is openly published and runs locally on your phone rather than on a remote server. Full model and licensing details are listed on our Licenses page, and our Engineering Journal explains why it was chosen.
Yes. You own your data. FarmakoMed allows you to export your full data at any time in standard formats.
